A huge shout out to our amazing adaptations contractor Effectable, who have gone over and above, with their social value community investment into a re-decoration project at Minerva House, which is our women and children’s refuge hostel.

The property has been given a new lease of life with a fresh coat of paint throughout all communal areas, living room, kitchen and bathrooms.  New anti-slip vinyl flooring has been installed as well as other general repairs.

John Walters, Financial Director from EffectAble said, “EffectAble believes that social value means creating a lasting and sustainable legacy for the community in which we live and work. We were therefore delighted at the opportunity to extensively redecorate Minerva House and install new floorings to the kitchen, bathrooms and WCs.”

Solace Womens Aid staff member said, “We are so grateful to the Effectable team for such amazing kindness and the hard work that went into this project.  Minerva House has been utterly transformed into a bright and a welcoming environment for the women and children, where they can recover from the trauma of domestic abuse. The positive impact on their well-being is immeasurable, it has made a huge difference and will be enjoyed for years to come.”

Resident quotes:

“It looks so different, cleaner and brighter. It is much better now.”

“Thank you- it is much nicer now and it will be really nice for Christmas.”

“Me and the children are very happy with the decoration. We feel more comfortable here now.”

Nihal Ates, Domestic Abuse Manager at Barnet Homes added, “The refuge is a safe and supported accommodation for survivors and children. Having a safe and comfortable home is essential for survivors and their children. Refuge provides them with a sense of hope for the future and helps them to heal and recover from the trauma they have experienced. Our goal is to integrate trauma-informed practices into all our work. We are deeply grateful to EffectAble for their invaluable and impactful contribution in making this possible. Your hard work will be remembered by the residents and Barent Homes for years to come.”

Thank you again to all at EffectAble for this amazing piece of work!
