Help for Rough Sleepers in Barnet

Rough sleeping is the most visible and damaging form of homelessness, where someone finds themselves sleeping on the streets.  Rough sleeping can be a complicated problem to solve, as many and complex factors are often involved.  The Barnet Homes Rough Sleeper Team works to reduce rough sleeping in the borough by delivering and coordinating a range of services for rough sleepers.  We work with a range of partners and our joint aim is to ensure that no one need sleep rough in the borough.

Barnet Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub

Our 17 bed rough sleeper assessment hub provides an immediate “off the streets” offer for rough sleepers.  With support provided by Homeless Action in Barnet, this is a short stay for assessment and support with the aim to move occupants on to sustainable long-term accommodation.

Rough Sleeper Accommodation Pathway

We have funding to purchase an allocation of 55 homes to be used as long-term accommodation for rough sleepers.  These are let on 2-year tenancies at the London Affordable Rent, with ongoing  support provided to the tenants.

What to do if you are aware of somebody rough sleeping

Rough Sleeping in Severe Weather

Barnet has a Severe Weather Emergency Protocol which operates during periods of severe weather to provide emergency accommodation for all rough sleepers in the borough.  Access to this provision is through Outreach services, Barnet Homes Housing Options Service and Homeless Action Barnet.  If you are concerned about a person sleeping rough during periods of severe weather, please contact Streetlink.
