In September 2013 Barnet Council introduced a Placements Policy in regard to making offers of Private Rented Accommodation. This policy has ensured that greater emphasis is placed on providing accommodation that is both affordable and suitable for housing applicants. For some households, this will mean that they are offered accommodation that is located outside of London. By adopting the Placements Policy, any legal duty that Barnet Council owes to a homeless household (any homelessness duty) can be ended with an offer of a suitable private sector tenancy. This rule applies to customers who made a housing application on or after 9 November 2012.

As an additionto this, a Temporary Accommodation Placement Policy was introduced in June 2016. This was in response to a Supreme Court judgement that recommended that Councils publish a policy for the fair placement of households into Temporary Accommodation.
