As part of their social value commitments, our contractor Wates, and the charity The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) planted 50 trees across our sheltered schemes and Your Choice Barnet services’ gardens as well as other green spaces in Barnet.

While construction produces detrimental CO2 for our environment, the tree planting initiative aims to combat this. It is great to see that Wates aspires to establish an environmental balance while working in the borough. Over time, the trees will bring lots of different benefits and help create a greener, more resilient environment for all to enjoy.

“Wow, what a lovely email to receive stating that Barnet Homes had some trees that the gardening club members could have. The guys planted six for us at the entrance to Bittacy Court so over the years I’m sure they will make the area look so much nicer.” Debbie Docherty, Barnet Homes Resident

“I would like to thank you in the name of the Margaret Court community for offering us five trees to replace our old trees which had to be cut off in the last years. Our court was home to many birds, pigeons and squirrels and having no trees made our community garden a quiet place, all these animals have disappeared. We are hoping to see them return in the next couple of years again.” Eszter Csori, Barnet Homes Resident

“It’s fantastic to work with Wates and Barnet to support TCV planting 50 more carbon busting trees. They will help improve canopy cover across so many sites in Barnet for the enjoyment of local people and to benefit the environment. Thanks to our Charity of the Year partnerships with Wates they’ve supported TCV to plant over 10,000 new trees and are on track to hit 15,000 by the end of 2021” Peter Hutchings, Fundraising and Partnership Manager

“Initiatives such as this are a fantastic platform to allow Wates to support communities around Barnet as we all work towards making London and the environment greener. We are delighted to have worked in partnership with Barnet Homes and TCV to deliver this environmental activity which provides a multitude of long- and short-term benefits.” Gary Wilkinson Regional Managing Director (South Responsive) Wates Living Space

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Wates as they are conscious of their impact on the environment and our residents. TCV did a fantastic job planting 50 trees across our sheltered schemes, Your Choice Barnet services and garden clubs. I’d like to thank Wates and TCV for showing a real commitment to enhancing the communities in which they work.” Camille Yerles Customer Involvement Officer Barnet Homes
