bedford roadExactly one year ago, three local families in housing need were handed over their keys to the newly built Barnet Council properties on Alexandra Road, which was the start of an ambitious house building programme in the borough.

12 months later, Barnet Council’s ALMO Barnet Homes got the green light to start a second construction phase which will see 40 new homes across six sites built over the next year.

Tony Piggott, Head of New Build and Development says:

“We are delighted to be providing much needed affordable housing for the residents of Barnet. We look forward to working alongside Barnet council to continue this programme and to significantly increase the number of affordable homes in the borough.”

The first site to start being built was previously the site of unused garages on Bedford Road in Mill Hill, NW7. The beginning of the construction on Bedford Road was officially launched on 30 January by The Worshipful Mayor of The London Borough of Barnet, Councillor Hugh Rayner. The Mayor was joined by The Barnet Group’s Chair, Terry Rogers as well as members of our Development Team, contractors Bugler Developments and the Employer’s Agent Walker Management.

Other areas that gave been given the green light for homes are: Brent Place, EN5 (Underhill); Haldane Close, N10 (Coppetts); Green Lane, HA8 (Edgware); Tarling Road, N2 (East Finchley); and Wade Court, N10 (Coppetts).

All 40 of the homes on this programme will be let in accordance with Barnet Council’s allocations policy for affordable rent, increasing the Council’s supply of social housing. The homes will be completed on a staggered basis, all to be built by spring 2016.
