An exciting update about Barnet Homes’ upcoming energy efficiency retrofit project.

Barnet Homes is joining forces with construction company Quinn London to tackle a retrofit project aiming to implement a range of energy-saving measures across over 250 homes.

Retrofit Resident Engagement Officer, Kundai Rusike, says that the energy efficiency retrofit project reflects Barnet Home’s commitment to continuous improvement and better outcomes for residents by installing energy-saving measures that will help reduce typical energy-related costs and make homes more environmentally friendly.

“The project will be starting at the end of August,” says Kundai. “With improved insulation and ventilation measures, the team’s excited to begin providing residents with healthier homes that stay warmer over winter.”

What’s in the retrofit?

  • Insulation: Installing wall and loft insulation to enhance thermal performance, resulting in warmer homes and reduced heat loss.
  • Draught proofing: Updated draught-proofing measures will be implemented right throughout to minimise cold air infiltration and help maintain stable indoor temperatures.
  • Replacing external doors and windows: Energy-efficient doors and windows will be installed, reducing heat loss.
  • Ventilation: Optimising ventilation systems to strengthen indoor air quality while minimising energy consumption.
  • Heating controls: Upgrades to heating controls, such as thermostatic radiator valves, program timers, and hot water thermostats, will give residents greater control over their energy usage, leading to improved efficiency and comfort.

A three-phase approach

Already, Kundai says the team is carrying out a range of surveys for each property to ensure suitable energy-saving measures are installed in residents’ homes.

The project takes a three-phase approach to target each residential area at a time:

Phase 1 – Properties located in Goldsmith Avenue, Fryent Grove and Hyde Crescent NW9.

Phase 2 – Properties located in Sturgess Avenue NW4 and Berkeley Crescent EN4.

Phase 3 – Properties located in Clitterhouse Crescent, Claremont Road, Clitterhouse Road and Cloister Road NW2.

In partnership with Quinn London

Quin London has been crucial to the success of this project, says Kundai.

“Having led numerous public housing retrofits, the team bring a wealth of expertise and are invaluable in driving positive change to Barnet Homes properties.

“This energy efficiency retrofit project aligns with our commitment to environmental sustainability. Even though this is but a small move to curb carbon emissions and promote energy efficiency, we’re actively contributing to a greener future with every step.”

Stay tuned…

During this process, the team aim to minimise disruption to residents’ daily routines and are asking residents to remember to verify the identity of authorised personnel before granting them access to homes.

In the meantime, stay tuned for further updates on the progress of the team’s energy efficiency retrofit.
