Tim Mulvenna, CEO

Tim joined the Group as CEO in February 2018 from London & Quadrant Housing Trust, where he was Group Director, Customer Services. Tim has also held senior customer service roles in the charity and telecoms sectors.

Tim has identified four priority areas for The Barnet Group: People, Customers, Growth and Technology. In the short term, his focus will be on two areas: Organisational Development – getting the best for the Group’s people and getting the best out of them; and Digitisation – in order to see big improvements in the customer service offer. Resources will be prioritised to deliver better outcomes for our people and our customers.

Laura Giles, Director of Strategy

Laura has worked for The Barnet Group since 2016. Previously a Head of Service, she joined the Executive Management Team in September 2023 as Director of Strategy. She has worked in social housing for over 15 years in a variety of roles from resident involvement and complaints management to project and programme management and strategic planning. Laura has a degree in English Literature and is experienced in leading on improvement, culture, and change programmes. As part of her role, Laura also leads on housing and homelessness strategy for the London Borough of Barnet.

Kate Laffan, Group Director of Resident Services

Kate was previously the Assistant Director, responsible for our Housing Options service. As of June 2019, she is our Director of Customer Experience & Service Improvement.

Shaun McLean, Group Director of Resources

Shaun joined The Barnet Group in January 2020. He was previously at Thrive Homes and worked in senior roles at a number of multinational companies for 13 years before joining the housing sector in 2011. His previous role was Deputy Finance Director of Family Mosaic.

His career began as a qualified chartered accountant in South Africa and since moving to the UK in 1998 he has progressed through various financial management roles. He has worked for a number of large companies covering areas including telecoms, software, financial services and container shipping. These included Santander, Accenture and Maersk.

He moved into the housing sector as he values the importance of making a social contribution and finds it a rewarding role.

Julie Riley, Group Director of Care & Support

Julie joined the Group in early 2014 and has responsibility for all of the Your Choice services and Sheltered Housing, Floating Support within Barnet Homes. In Spring 2018 Julie assumed the responsibility for Business development and Community Engagement, as well as Extra Care in her Group Director, Care & Support role.

Elliott Sweetman, Group Director of Development and Property

Elliott has been with Barnet Homes since 2006 and is directly responsibility for Customer Access, Tenancy & Estate Management, Leaseholder Services, Repairs & Maintenance, Asset Management, Capital Investment Programmes, Health & Safety, Income Collection, Financial Inclusion and Homelessness & Housing Options. Elliott is also responsible for the delivery of operations for Opendoor Homes, our Registered Provider. Elliott has a strong track record of creating, inspiring, and leading ambitious and high-performing teams to deliver great quality services to customers, whilst achieving significant cost efficiencies.
