Barnet Homes’ Domestic Abuse team attended Middlesex University in Hendon on Tuesday 21 May, alongside their One Stop Shop Service partners in support of a week-long campaign run by London Borough of Barnet, referred to as #Hearmyvoice.

The week of activities involved an exhibition by students showcasing film, animation, and graphics. The exhibition tackled everyday forms of misogyny such as ‘banter’ and street harassment.

In addition, a display by Performing Arts students at the University followed by a walk from the university grounds to Sunny Hill Park took place. Attendees were invited to share their experiences of walking home at night as part of calls for greater safety on our streets.

A host of various specialist services and support organisations in the borough including Barnet Homes’ One Stop Shop Service were present for a Community Partners Forum, which was well-attended. A powerful video was shared amongst the professionals in attendance. See link here: Love Bomb – drama on coercive control & toxic relationships (youtube.com)

The Barnet Homes Domestic Abuse Team shared their thoughts on the week-long campaign.

Faizah Tapper, Domestic Abuse Link Coordinator: The #HearMyVoice VAWG partnership campaign with Barnet Council and Middlesex University was powerful and well organised, it was so nice to see so many different professionals with the same aim, helping and supporting survivors of domestic abuse.

Selma Bayou, Domestic Abuse & Sanctuary Scheme Coordinator: the event was well coordinated between Barnet Council and Middlesex University. The two students’ production of misogyny was inspirational. Overall, the event was well organised and much needed.

Marie Kohan, Domestic Abuse Floating Support Worker: The partnership between Barnet Council and Middlesex University worked well, the event was well attended by professionals/students. I was glad to see so many professionals promoting their services.
