To mark Employability Day 2019, we are sharing stories about how various initiatives that The Barnet Group offer to help local people back into employment. This includes our successful apprenticeship scheme which provides a ‘learn and earn’ element – with apprenticeships available in both Barnet Homes and Your Choice Barnet.
Tracey Dillon is one of our apprentices from our 2017/18 intake. Here’s her story.
“After taking voluntary redundancy from retail management, I was looking for opportunities to pursue something different. On Barnet Council’s website I saw a Level 2 Housing practice apprenticeship vacancy within Barnet Homes. I thought this sounded interesting and there were different departments available to work in within.
“This apprenticeship gave me the opportunity to achieve a qualification and learn new skills on the job in a new sector which appealed to me. Since completing the apprenticeship last year I have secured a full-time position within the Leasehold Services team as a Leasehold Development Officer.
As part of my current job role I assist with the administration of alteration applications and Major work consultations. I enjoy working at Barnet Homes and all the people I have worked with have been great. They have helped me to achieve what I have so far. I enjoy that my role still allows me the ability to have an element of customer interaction. There is always something new to do and no two days are every the same.”
The Barnet Group will be starting its Apprenticeship recruitment for 2019/20 – please keep checking our website.
