Monday 21 May marks the start of National Dementia Action Week.
One of the things The Barnet Group is doing to support, and raise awareness for Dementia Action Week is by having staff training to improve understanding of the condition. Staff from Barnet Homes and Your Choice Barnet service took part in the training.
This week we’ve used The Virtual Dementia Bus Tour experience (for the 3rd year running) to facilitate staff training on the impact dementia has on sufferers – and their families and carers.
The Virtual Bus Tour experience is a hands-on sensitivity programme gives people a greater understanding of the physical and mental challenges facing the more than 850,000 people in the UK with diagnosed dementia.
You might be surprised to hear that dementia is not a natural part of aging and it doesn’t just affect older people. Over 40,000 people under 65 have dementia.
On 23rd May, as part of Dementia Action Week, Barnet Council’s Adults and Communities, is supporting a play about dementia called ‘Don’t Leave Me Now’ at the Finchley Arts Depo.
