Staff from The Barnet Group recently hosted a carnival-themed event to celebrate diversity, which also had the aim of raising money for charity.

Colleagues at The Barnet Group organised Diversity Day 2016 to mark Black History Month. The event took place at the Greek Cypriot Centre in North Finchley.

Being a carnival theme it featured a Notting-Hill inspired carnival fashion-show, live music as well as a historical presentation.

The Barnet Group Carnival event was self-funded by its staff through the sale of tickets to other staff and partners. The food for the event represented cuisine from all over the world, and was prepared and cooked by the staff themselves. Even the carnival costumes were hand-made in the staff’s own time.

Bensons, a repairs contractor for The Barnet Group, generously donated items for a fundraising raffle on the night, which included champagne, wine and luxury chocolates.

The main highlight of the evening came courtesy of a carnival catwalk show – with the authentic head dresses donated for the evening by a member of the community who takes part in the Notting Hill Carnival.

Staff at The Barnet Group have a target to raise £300.00, which will be split between two charities; Cancer Research and The Sickle Cell Society and as of ‘going to press’, staff have raised nearly £200.00.
