Dear Mr Turtle,

Thank you for your request dated 5 August 2022, we have treated this as a Freedom of Information request. You have asked for the following information:

Since 1st August 2020 to 31st July 2022 please provide the following information:

  1. The number of times Severe Weather Emergency protocol was activated in the requested period
  2. On each period that SWEP was active, please give the dates and times that it was active from and to.
  3. Detail of the protocol for each period (for example provision of indoor accommodation or street level assistance with water and suncream).
  4. Detail of whether using the protocol led to the adaptation of existing services. For example, were there temporary closures/suspension of existing services to open up new provision.
  5. If additional bedspaces were provided, were they offered to people beyond the period that SWEP was active for.
  6. Number of people assisted in each period.

Barnet Homes’ response:

The Severe Weather Emergency Protocol was activated 25 times in the requested period.  21 times for severe cold weather, and 4 times for extreme hot weather. During cold weather indoor accommodation is provided, following the “In for Good Principle” accommodation provided continues beyond the SWEP period. Use of the protocol did not require the adaptation of existing services. During hot weather water, sunscreen, and advice are offered by our Rough Sleeper team to people found rough sleeping, however numbers of people advised or provided with sunscreen and/or water are not recorded.
