Every year the Sheltered Housing Christmas Party attracts a larger crowd, not just from residents from our sheltered scheme, but from the wider community.
Of course, the Sheltered Housing Christmas Party has all the best ingredients for a Christmas party – food (including lots of cups of tea), entertainment and a dancefloor just waiting for some fancy footwork.
It was also to the great delight of party-goers that the Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Caroline Stock, not only attended, but took the time to meet and greet residents at each table.
If that wasn’t enough, the Mayor of Barnet was joined by former Mayor of Barnet (2017- 2018) and former Councillor Brian Salinger, who promised residents he would return to the Sheltered Housing Christmas Party if he ever got the chance.
Many of the residents at the party said they look forward to attending the Sheltered Housing Christmas Party every year as it gives them the opportunity to socialise with other people outside of their sheltered schemes.
There are nine million lonely people in the UK and four million of them are older people. Many older people find constant loneliness hardest to overcome. They lack the friendship and support we all need.
The Campaign to End Loneliness is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund aims to support people who are most risk of loneliness and that a wider range of services and activities are available to address loneliness.
Just recently, BBC news reporter Dan Walker re-visited the home of an elderly man called Terrence, who was struggling with loneliness after spending the last 20 Christmases alone.
Our Sheltered Housing Team organize a roster of social events for sheltered housing residents – which ensures none of its residents will be lonely at any time of year.
