As part of Apprenticeship Week, we want to share some of the apprenticeship success stories from our contractors, Mears.

Since as today is also International Women’s Day, it’s  an opportunity to focus on the massive shortage of women in Social Housing Building Maintenance and the construction sector as a whole.

Around 99% of tradespeople are male. So, we are delighted that the first Mears apprentice story we’re sharing is not only a female recruit, but also a Barnet Homes resident.

Meet Lorena, who is making progress in the carpentry trade.

“The Mears Apprenticeship scheme got my foot in to the trade industry. I am enjoying my course and working with and learning from the carpenters and I am looking forward to my progression at the end of my apprenticeship.”

Well done to Lorena. Please keep checking our website and Facebook pages for more stories about our Mears apprentices… and details on vacancies with Mears.
