Sheltered Housing pulls off a Christmas cracker of a party

Even in our fast-paced, crowded society, loneliness is a growing issue in the UK.

Loneliness is experienced by all ages, but it is particularly prominent in the older population. Coupled with the combination of winter weather and other family members being busy at Christmas – social isolation among older people gets acute at Christmas.

This is one of the reasons why the social events that the Barnet Homes’ Sheltered Housing Team arrange throughout the year, prove to be so important for many older people in the community.

The Sheltered Housing Christmas Party is a particular favourite, as it provides social interaction, entertainment and a visit from The Mayor of Barnet Councillor Reuben Thompstone.

The year’s Sheltered Housing Christmas Party was a particular success, with positive feedback from many of our tenants on the day.

One resident, Joyce said she loves the opportunity to socialise with people outside of her Sheltered Housing scheme in a safe environment. She even enjoyed a nice chat with our Chief Executive Tim Mulvenna, who came to support the event.

The Sheltered Housing Christmas Party 2018 finished off with a very lively conga dance to none other than Barry Manilow.
