Every year local MP Mike Freer hosts an Apprenticeship and Jobs Fayre to promote local jobs and businesses. The Barnet Group was well represented, including by new ‘matchmaking’ company PA Choices.

PA Choices, which is part of Your Choice Barnet, finds personal assistants who can help people who receive direct payments support on a day-to-day basis. This could involve anything from carrying out every day domestic tasks or supporting the person to get out and about.

We also had a promotional stand for The Barnet Group recruitment, as well as officers who were on hand to promote our apprenticeship schemes – it was National Apprenticeship Week after all! Members of the new BOOST Child’s Hill project were on hand to promote how they can support residents back into work.

Friday’s Apprenticeship and Jobs Fayre Mike Freer’s fifth, and as well as The Barnet Group, also had stall holders from local employers such as Waitrose, B&Q, the Metropolitan Police, Premier Inn and Barnet Council.

Mr Freer said: “The Fayre has been a great success since I ran the first one back in 2013. So often people applying for jobs or apprenticeships are communicating with potential employers through a computer screen. At the Fayre, those attending will instead be able to have one-to-one conversations with professionals from a variety of careers.”

He added, “In previous years, attendees have found the experience worthwhile simply because they were able to gain valuable advice about future career paths.”
