“There is an enormously diverse set of job roles at The Barnet Group, making it possible to develop your career in a range of areas.”

During my seven years with The Barnet Group I have worked across various roles. I’ve now become the Head of PR & Communications. In my current role I oversee a range of activities from designing the group’s branding to producing our external and internal communications. I enjoy the variety my job gives me, and the opportunity to produce content for staff, service users and customers to engage with.

I began at The Barnet Group as a graduate trainee in the Housing Options team in 2013, before gaining a role as a Nominations and Appeals Officer. However, I always had an interest in web and graphic design, and taught myself some design skills while at Uni. When the Digital Communications Executive position became available at The Barnet Group, I applied, and was fortunately successful.

During my time in the PR and Communications team, I’ve been involved in a range of projects. One of my proudest moments came when I redesigned the Group’s branding including the logos that you can see across all our services. I was required to pitch to the executive team, the Group board and the Leader of Barnet Council, which was not without its challenges. My pitches were successful, and the branding has been rolled out across the whole of the Group.

There is an enormously diverse set of job roles at The Barnet Group, making it possible to develop your career in a range of areas.

I’ve also been fortunate to be able to attend role-specific training like writing and design training, as well as being part of the New & Aspiring Managers course. My managers have been very supportive in my development, and I’d encourage you to look for positive opportunities to make yourself visible and demonstrate your capabilities. By showing commitment and initiative in your job, The Barnet Group will provide you with opportunities to grow.
