Barnet Homes recruited seven apprentices in 2011-12, with three already having been offered full-time positions at the organisation when their apprenticeships end next month (September).

Chief Executive of The Barnet Group, Tracey Lees, said: “We’re very pleased with the success of our first apprenticeship scheme. As one of the borough’s biggest employers we have a duty to support the local community and we want to offer more apprenticeships this year.

“We particularly want to give young Barnet Homes residents the best possible chance of finding long-term work. This is part of our ‘Feeling the Squeeze?’ commitment to help residents through the economic downturn and also our efforts to help tenants cope with the upcoming changes to the benefits system.

“This is a potentially life-changing opportunity for some of our young people and I hope they will take advantage of it.”

The Barnet Group has also been working with Barnet Homes repairs contractor Mears to offer apprenticeships to local people. Mears has been recruiting two apprentice electricians and two apprentice plumbers, but is looking for young people interested in two trainee roles in business administration and customer care.

People interested in those roles should apply, quoting reference 181932, to Training for London on 020 8266 4333, email enquiries@trainingforLondon.com or visit the National Apprenticeship Service at www.apprenticeships.org. The closing date for application for these roles is 31 October 2012.
