As part of marking Dementia Awareness Week during 20-26 May, our new extra-care scheme Ansell Court launched the Young Onset Dementia Project.

What is Young Onset Dementia?

According to The Alzheimers Society, Young Onset Dementia is described people with dementia whose symptoms started before they were 65.

There are estimated to be at least 42,000 younger people with dementia in the UK: more than 5% of all those with dementia.

With that in mind, staff at Ansell Court launched the Young Onset Dementia Group in partnership with Barnet Council and The Alzheimers Society during Dementia Awareness Week.

The project would like to encourage those who are have been diagnosed with early onset dementia to attend the project which is running every 4th Wednesday in the month.

The objective of the project is to help those people who might have symptoms or be diagnosed with dementia, but who are ‘young at heart’ and still want a space where they can happily socialise, stay active and do activities.

The Young Onset Dementia Project meets:

  • Every 4th Wednesday of the month from 2-4pm.
  • The venue for the project is Ansell Court, 2 Milespit Hill, Barnet, NW7 2FH
