Your Choice Barnet customers and staff at Flower Lane are looking forward to a long summer of activities in their newly landscaped sensory gardens, thanks to staff volunteers from Hammerson plc doing the work as part of their Community ‘Fix-Up’ day.

On Friday 5 June  Barnet Homes’ staff, our Grounds Maintenance Team and repairs contractors Mears joined in with Hammerson plc staff volunteers to tackle the overgrown garden and outdoor furniture which has had little maintenance for the past year.

The Barnet Group’s Interim Chief Executive Troy Henshall said: “As Flower Lane’s manager Lyn Huddleston has explained to everyone here today, you can see what the importance of a garden like this is to users of Flower Lane. But it’s difficult for staff to maintain so it’s really fantastic that our volunteers, particularly Hammerson and other partner organisations like Mears have transformed the gardens ready for summer.”

Lyn Huddleston, manager at the Flower Lane Day Service, which offers respite care for customers on the autism spectrum said she was so appreciative of the stunning result that the team of volunteers had managed to achieve with the gardens:

Lyn: “Everyone who has been out in the garden at Flower Lane just cannot believe the transformation. If you could have seen people eating out in the garden at lunch time, on their newly painted table and seats, you would really know that all the hard work of the volunteers has certainly made a difference. The sun was shining and their faces were beaming. So on behalf of everyone here at Flower Lane can I say a big thank you.”
