I need help with a deposit

St Mungo’s Broadway

St Mungo’s Broadway is supported by Barnet Homes and funded by the Council to help people find accommodation in the private sector. St Mungo’s Broadway assists people who Barnet Homes is unable to help.

St Mungo’s Broadway offers a rent deposit guarantee scheme to help people find accommodation with private landlords. If you register with St Mungo’s Broadway, they can help you contact letting agents and landlords who may have suitable properties. Once you find somewhere to live, St Mungo’s Broadway will pay the first four weeks’ rent and guarantee your deposit.

How do I register for the scheme?

In the first instance, you should contact St Mungo’s Broadway on 020 8446 2504 or visit them at 36b Woodhouse Road, North Finchley, London, N12 0RG.  They are open Monday, Thursday and Friday from 10am – 1pm.

St Mungo’s Broadway will only be able to help you if you can prove these 5 things

1. You have lived in Barnet for the last 12 months
You will need to show either a tenancy agreement, wage slips, proof of your Jobcentre Plus or a GP’s letter.

2. Who you are
You will need to be able to prove who you are by showing a form of ID.

3. Your income
You will need to provide a copy of recent wage slips or provide a letter from DWP saying what benefits you are receiving. This letter must be less than one month old.

4. You have (or are setting up) a bank account
You will need to provide either the last three months’ statements to prove that you have an account or a letter from the bank or Post Office that you are in the process of opening an account

5. You are (or will be) homeless
You will need to provide a letter from your landlord or the person you are staying that you can’t stay in the property any longer.  If you are street homeless, Homeless Action in Barnet can provide you with a letter of referral.
