Support for 16 and 17 year-olds 2017-12-11T10:43:03+00:00

We have a specialist youth mediation team who work with 16 and 17 year olds who are at risk of being made homeless. Usually, this will be because they are unable to remain at home due to family conflict.

Being young and homeless can be a very isolating and disruptive experience. For this reason, we try to help as many young people remain at home as possible.

What is the mediation service?

The mediation team work with the young person and their parents/carers to help them talk about the problems they are having at home. Providing there is no risk of harm, our aim is to help the whole family come to an agreement that allows the young person to remain in the family home.

If you are having problems at home

Leaving home is a major decision that will give you many responsibilities you probably have not dealt with before. Leaving home without careful planning beforehand can easily leave you homeless. You will not be entitled to a council home and you will need to find a deposit and rent in advance for a home in the private rented sector.

If you feel that you must leave home immediately, for example due to violence or abuse, you must seek assistance right away. The following agencies can help you find a safe place to go:
