Barnet Homes and community partners the London Fire Brigade (LFB) are supporting Register My Appliance Day (Thursday, 19 January) as part of their Total Recalls campaign to make white goods safer we

Instantly improve fire safety

On Register My Appliance Day manufacturers remind customers they can instantly improve fire safety in the home by taking a few moments to register the fridges, washing machines, and tumble dryers they rely on every day.

Manufacturers will also be sending reminders to over four million consumers to register their appliances.

Life saving product safety warnings

A YouGov survey for the Association of Manufacturers (AMDEA) found less than half (43%) of British adults register their large domestic appliances with the manufacturer. This means thousands of consumers could be missing out on potentially life saving product safety warnings.

By taking this simple and sensible precaution, you can be contacted swiftly if a safety repair is ever needed.

Total Recalls

The LFB’s Total Recalls campaign is calling for the government, manufacturers and retailers to make a number of changes that will make people safer.

Register your household appliances, whether they’re new or even if you have had them for a while, is another vital part of keeping you, your family and your home safe from fire.

Assistant Commissioner for Fire Safety Dan Daly said: “Our crews attend nearly one fire a day involving white goods. That’s why our Total Recalls Campaign is calling for the government, manufacturers and retailers to make a number of changes that will make people safer.

“These products are the workhorses of the home, often running daily and for many years, but it’s all too easy to forget about them.

“Getting into the habit of spending a few minutes on www.registermyappliance.org.uk means your household will receive any relevant safety messages from the manufacturer which you should respond to immediately. It could save your life.”
