Residents in New Southgate lent a hand to make their neighbourhood a place to feel proud of when Barnet Homes’ ‘Love where you live’ campaign came to visit.

The Love where you live day at Coppies Grove, N11, held on Saturday 15 September, saw Barnet Homes staff working alongside the many residents who came out on the day to give the area a makeover.

Local residents were invited to make suggestions beforehand about what work they would like done on the day, and Barnet Homes encouraged as many local people as possible to give up a couple of hours to do jobs, such as gardening, litter picking, cleaning and painting.

Besides the environmental work which took place on the day, there was a free barbecue for every helper and plenty of activities for the local children who also came along to help.

The fire brigade attended bringing along a fire engine, which proved a hit with the youngsters. Residents were also able to meet their local Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Barnet Homes’ Chief Executive, Tracey Lees, said: “We work hard to keep our estates up to a good standard, but there are always additional small tasks that can be done to keep neighbourhoods looking their best.

“Our Love where you live campaign is all about working together with residents to make the greatest impact. We hope the residents of Coppies Grove can take pride in their neighbourhood long after this visit.”

The event followed a series of similar one-day makeovers on estates across the borough in 2010 and 2011 by Barnet Homes.
