Residents of three 15-storey tower blocks celebrated the transformation of their homes at a fun day marking the completion of the biggest ever redevelopment project for Barnet Homes.

The fun day was held on Thursday 2 August for residents of Harpenmead Point, Templemead Point and Granville Point, Childs Hill NW2, and organised by Barnet Homes and its contractors Apollo (part of Keepmoat) which carried out the £9.5million redevelopment work.

There were plenty of free activities and entertainment for families during the afternoon including music, arts and crafts, children’s entertainers and face painting.

Resident Marina Nikitina of Granville Point said: “It’s been great fun for the kids. I always come along to Barnet Homes events as they’re always good fun and brilliant for meeting people you know locally.”

Barnet Homes Chief Executive, Tracey Lees, said: “It was good to see so many families enjoying the entertainment and I’d like to thank all of the residents for their patience while the work was carried out.

“This was a huge project, but it’s been worthwhile to see the tower blocks transformed into attractive landmarks and homes created which people can feel proud of. I’d like to thank our contractor partners Apollo for the commitment and professionalism they’ve shown throughout.”

Work on the three tower blocks, which were built in the 1960s and in need of refurbishment to modern standards, has taken 17 months.

The new cladding on each block with its cream and light grey design has improved the skyline around the south west of the borough.

All communal areas inside the blocks have been revamped and the 137 tenanted flats now have new windows, heating, kitchens and bathrooms.

The improvements have also been designed to bring environmental benefits such as reducing carbon emissions and water usage.

Resident Sue Short of Templewood Point said: “The work has completely turned around the estate, making it really nice. It’s like Docklands now and I’m proud to come home and invite visitors over. I marvel at the difference every day as I come home and the tower blocks come into sight.

“The contractors looked after us very well while they were doing the refurbishment and it’s made my flat a lot warmer.”

The original celebration event had been planned for 8 June, but had to be postponed due to bad weather on the day.
